We were very excited to see Malas alKuwait finally open, and came exclusively to try it, even skipped lunch earlier today. There was a greeting table at the entrance, but no one greeted us. We finally saw one of the waiters placing a table mat in front of one customer, we asked him if the restaurant was open, he said “Yes” then walked away. We seated ourselves and made our choices from the scanned menu. After changing our selection due to unavailable items, we finally made our order. The first to come was our appetizer (Grape Vines) it was undercooked and drenched in oil, we sent it back. Next came our Murabyan, which was also undercooked, we sent it back and it came back slightly better.. but didn’t have any of the usual Kuwaiti-used-spices. After that, our waiter came to our table, and asked wether or not I want my drink now.. when I asked him to repeat, he repeated the question and laughed and said “Do you understand?” Dealing with customers and normal etiquette should be the first thing new waiters are trained on. When I asked him why he asked this question, he simply shrugged and said “I’m new” My mother ordered Saudi coffee, and it’s unfiltered and tastes solely of cardamom. They brought us a salad as an apology, which was actually the only delicious thing they had. Overall, we had high expectations of this place, and we were thoroughly disappointed! Thank god there’s a McDonalds nearby.
